Test rides, manufacturing update + Dave’s Taiwan trip

Feb 7, 2020

We’ve had some fun over the past couple of weeks showing the FLIT-16 to some new test riders…

We had the pleasure of meeting Tom Watson, author of the bestselling book Downsizing, in London so that he could take the bike out for a spin.

Tom’s journey to a healthier lifestyle is inspirational, losing over 7 stone in and reversing his type 2 diabetes diagnosis. It was great to chat to him about the role that his ebike has had to play – Tom commutes to London from his home in the Midlands on the train, then uses his ebike to zip between meetings in the city.

Check out the video clip below… we think it’s safe to say that he enjoyed the ride!

MORE TEST RIDES

Last Friday we also had the pleasure of meeting Quentin Stafford-Fraser for a test ride at our offices in Cambridge. Quentin was part of the team that invented the world’s first webcam. He’s written a really nice review of the FLIT-16 and his time at FLIT HQ which you can have a read of here.

“I found it great fun and comfortable to ride, a good weight to carry, and easier to roll along the floor than any other folding bike I’ve tried” – Quentin

OVER IN THE FACTORY

Things have been slightly quieter with manufacturing over the past couple of weeks as it’s been Chinese New Year, which is a big holiday in Taiwan. Lots of factories, including our manufacturing partner, close so that they can enjoy spending some time with their families.

Since the holiday has just finished, our manufacturing partner is now back to work on making the frame parts of the bike.

As we mentioned in our last update, Dave is going over to Taiwan soon. He’ll be setting up final testing of the bike (EMC testing, spray testing, CE marking, etc), checking some of the finished plastic parts on the manufactured rear swing arm, and visiting suppliers at the Taipei Cycle trade show.

We can’t wait to share some behind the scenes video footage directly from the factory soon!
